eng 248- Survey of African american literature novel narrative
The following artifact is an English Paper that i wrote during the summer of 2010 for an African American Literature course, at NC State. For this course we were assigned to read excerpts from different novels each week, and at the end of the week we were to do a write up on one of the excerpts that we read. For the paper below, I chose to do my write up on Harriet Jacobs slave narrative, entitled: Incidents of a Slave Girl. I selected this particular paper because the basis of the write up was on the fact that Harriet Jacobs used her gender and sexuality to aid her in her hardship and tribulations during her stay on a plantation.
I selected this paper to serve as the artifact that demonstrates my depth of content knowledge in English/Language Arts. This paper not only demonstrates my ability as a writer, but also as a proficient writer who can take evidence from text to prove a point. Using textual analysis to back up your evidence is a strand that the Common Core stresses in English Language Arts and it is one that I plan to incorporate frequently in my classroom.
As a teacher, it is crucial to incorporate this skill because it is one that students will not only use in English Language Arts, but also in other content areas as well.
