Camp Counselor
mummy wrapping my co-counselor!
During my time at NC State University I've worked with the City of Raleigh Parks and Recreation Summer Express program. Every summer it is a 10 week summer camp that takes place at various community centers around the Raleigh area. I've worked at Jaycee Community Center for the past 3 summers. Also, during the school year I help out with their YES program, which is a day camp that Jaycee hosts for kids when they have days off from school. I work with children ranging from age 5-12. This wide age gap really gave me a holistic view on what it is like to interact with children of all ages. I was also extremely lucky to see some of the children make the transition from elementary school onto middle school. Being a camp counselor with the City of Raleigh was a great experience! It allowed me to interact with kids in a different way then I was used to. It wasn't a classroom setting, so I was able to act silly with the kids and get on their level.
part-time BABYSITTER
Abrean and Braylen
During my freshman year of college I wanted to get some field experience, and I also wanted to get a feel for what specific age group I wanted to teach. So, my advisor suggested that I start babysitting, because it would be the quickest and funnest way to "get my feet wet." Babysitting has taught me so much about myself, and ultimately helped me decide to go into middle grades education. Honestly, it didn't, and still doesn't really feel like a job to me because I have so much fun while doing it. Kids really do say the 'darndest' things and there is never a dull moment while I am working. As you can see, all of my kids are huge wolf pack fans!
