ECI 430/435 Paul harvey project: the tale of growing up
The following artifact is a digital story that I created for ECI 430/435- Methods and Materials for Teaching English Language Arts and Social Studies. For this project, I re-organized my findings from the formal research conducted in the historical inquiry paper, into a Rest of the Storypiece on the topic. The research-based essay presented the audience with the story, that lead them to the lesser known, ironic part--the rest of the story. I then took the essay that I wrote, and turned it into a digital story. We were given a choice of the digital media form that we wanted to use to create our piece, and ultimately i decided to go with the Voice Thread tool. I really like using Voice Thread because it is fairly easy to use and navigate through.
I selected the digital story below to serve as evidence that demonstrates my knowledge and application of new technologies and emerging literacies. This artifact demonstrates my ability to take acquired knowledge about technologies and apply it to an educational based assignment. Technology is an innovative way to engage students in learning, and should be used to the students' advantage within the classroom. Voice Thread is a tool that students will enjoy using because they get to record themselves and go back and listen.
Reflecting back on the process, I learned the importance of being flexible. The fact that we were allowed choices in the way we wanted to transform our story into digital form was extremely beneficial. Not everyone wanted to use the same form of digital media, and it goes to show how giving students choices on final projects is a great way to make sure all students are able to perform to the best of their ability and able to do what makes them most comfortable.
